Until recently guidelines on calpol allowed the same dose to be given to any child between 12 months and 6 years.

However the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) have now changed the recommendation saying that with the wide age range younger children may have been given a higher than necessary dose.

Dosing guidelines are now split into tighter age brands reflecting the weight and body development difference.

Those over 4 years old can be given the maximum dose of ml each time whilst those aged 2 – 4 can have ml to 4 times a day. Babies aged 6 – 24 months can have 5ml up to 4 time a day.
