It’s no secret that former Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur player, Paul Gascoigne has battled with alcoholism since giving up football. His Management Company today confirmed that he has willingly gone to the US and admitted himself into a specilist centre for alcohol addiction.
Gazza’s alcohol addiction started during his football days and he was first admitted into hopsital with addiction problems in the late 1990’s. in 2008 he was arrested and detained under the Mental Health Act shortly after retiring from football.
The Professional Footballers’ Association Chief Executive expressed his fears for Gascoigne as he believes he could end up like former Manchester United player George Best, who died aged 59 in 2005 after a long battle with alcoholism.
