talkhealth are proud to support Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust during Ethinic Minority Cancer Awareness Month (EMCAM)

To highlight Ethnic Minority Cancer Awareness Month, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and the NHS Cancer Screening programme are holding a free training day in Birmingham.

The event aims to raise awareness of cervical cancer and prevention of the disease among black, faith and minority ethnic communities. Jo’s Trust advices anyone working or volunteering at organisations that provide health information to black, faith and minority ethnic groups should attend.

Why is it so important?

According to Cancer Equality ‘1 in 3 people will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives; therefore it is an important issue for everyone. However awareness of cancer and uptake of some cancer services is lower among ethnic minorities, added to this some ethnic minorities tend to be diagnosed when the disease is more advanced, all of which can lead to poorer survival.’

Recent research has also shown that awareness of cervical cancer is considerably lower in Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) women when compared to the wider population.

EMCAM and the workshop led by Jo’s Trust and the NHS Cancer Screening programme is an opportunity for representative from your organisation to hear from leading experts about cervical cancer and the importance of cervical screening.

The day will also allow time for you to share experiences and best practice to help you deliver targeted health information within the community you work with.
