Oestrogen
Oestrogen could hold the answer to why Women’s Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) rates are lower before menopause as this is when the oestrogen levels are higher. The oestrogen has an effect on the white blood cells produced by the immune system during trauma. Oestrogen is linked to preventing the white blood cells from moving away from the blood stream into the tissues, therfore reducing inflammation. Its the inflammation that is linked to the CHD. Could this be the clue to the reason that women’s CHD figures are lower pre-menopause? Research is ongoing.
