We live in a results-oriented world. Indeed, instant gratification is a part of the norm thanks to a myriad of tech innovations. However, some things still require lots of hard work and patience; weight loss is one of those things. The bad news, naturally, is that many aspects can cause a diet to go awry. By looking at a few of the most common causes of diet failure, though, you can successfully avoid or manage these scenarios and ensure positive outcomes. Here are five pitfalls dieters most regularly encounter:

Your Diet is Off

There is no miracle diet that will positively guarantee weight loss. Rather, each diet has foibles that make it unique. Some diets are definitely more effective than others, though. Beware any diet that contains sugar-heavy items such as so-called “weight-loss” shakes, or diets that don’t allow for the consumption of healthy fats. Both of those factors can contribute to a poor diet.

Lack of Sleep

Quality of sleep affects everything from a person’s mood, capacity for mental comprehension, their appetite, and even insulin resistance. Getting a good night’s sleep is actually harder than it sounds –– so make this a priority if your diet isn’t up to par.

Improper Exercise Routine

A diet without the backing of a solid exercise regimen is almost bound to fail. Not exercising regularly will counterbalance the good work you’ve done dieting. Furthermore, using hard exercise as an “excuse” to indulge in non-healthful foods is a bad idea as well. Lastly, it is also possible to train too hard and to push your body too much. Avoid this.

Inconsistent Approach

Starting a diet is easy; sticking to it is very difficult. Even shifting from one diet to another isn’t typically beneficial. Changing the composition of your diet often can make it difficult to identify a solution that works for you. What’s more, try and eat meals at a consistent time and cut out junk-food or unhealthy snacks. Cheating –– even a little bit –– on your diet can throw everything else out of whack.

Medical Issues

Thyroid problems, vitamin d-deficiency, and other medical conditions can make it very difficult to lose weight, even if you diet effectively and exercise on a regular basis. That’s why it’s important to schedule a trip to the doctor’s office before you begin a new diet. Doctors can use sophisticated lab equipment like a cellscraper or CAT-scan machine to diagnose an issue you may not have known about before. Going to the doctor can be a little nerve-wracking, but it’s highly beneficial all the same.
