Rosacea affects one in 10 people in the UK – most don’t know they have it. I have been out and about recently promoting Pure and Gentle and have been amazed how many ladies I have met who have rosacea. Four years ago when I was diagnosed with it I didn’t know a lot about it but with lots of investigation and research I now know a hell of a lot more. It isn’t publicized a huge amount and there doesn’t seem to be many creams on the market just for this skin problem. So to help you a little I have summarized some of the information  I have found and will post more over the coming weeks.

People who have fair skin and who tend to blush easily may be at a higher risk of the condition. Rosacea appears more often among women, but men tend to have more severe symptoms. A possible reason for this could be that men generally delay medical treatment until rosacea becomes advanced. Rosacea’s appearance can vary greatly from one individual to another. Most of the time, not all of the potential signs and symptoms appear.

  • Flushing
  • Persistent redness
  • Bumps and pimples
  • Visible blood vessels

Other symptoms can include:

  • Eye irritation
  • Burning or stinging
  • Dry appearance
  • raised red patches
  • Skin thickening
  • Swelling

Signs and symptoms of rosacea may develop beyond the face, affecting areas including the neck, chest, scalp, or ears.

If treated early you can keep this skin problem under control but it isn’t curable, but there is medical therapy available to control or reverse the signs and symptoms. If you suspect that you have rosacea, consult your doctor. For more information have a look at our site www.pureandgentle.com

I have always had hyper-sensitive skin, particularly on my face, resulting in areas of itchy, dry eczema which now has been diagnosed as Rosacea along with the eczema. Also a close family member was diagnosed with a Maligant Melanoma skin cancer in 2007 forcing the whole family to become more aware of the effects the sun can have on our skin and how chemotherapy and other cancer treatments has such an effect on your skin too. I have subsequently spent time investigating the sun screen market to not only provide the right protection, but won’t cause skin irritation along with moisturisers and other products for after and during cancer treatment. I am not a medic; I am a mum with many years’ experience of having to deal with skin problems and www.pureandgentle.com was started because of this to find non- irritant products, research and information all in one place. I have found small tricks that can help along the way which I can share with you and hopefully relieve some of your problems with your skin.
