There are so many times that I wish MyItchyBoy had ‘normal’ skin.

However, this week, my sighs and desires for normality come from the combination of a backlog of laundry and the change in weather.

Due to the eczema that my son suffers, we change his bedding every couple of days.  Most mornings when I go to open his curtains, retrieve soft toys from the floor and make his bed, I am greeted by the following:

• Greasy shape of his body on his sheet
• Sometimes small smears of blood on his sheet
• Little ‘rolls’ of cream from when it is has dried on his pyjamas, or he’s scratched it off his skin – don’t know and not sure I want to

Then I pick up his duvet and can feel the greasiness from the late night applications of cream.  I am not sure whether frequent laundering of his sheets is good for his skin or not, but I am pretty sure that sleeping in greasy sheets is not good for his eczema.

On top of this normal operation, this week MyItchyBoy had a wet bed two nights in a row.  We’ve only ever had a handful of wet beds with my son, which is great.  But, bless him, he did pick a bad week as the weather has gone cold again.  Not cold enough to have the heating on mind, so if I hang laundry inside or out it is still not drying within 24 hours.

Usually, as soon as I strip his bed, I pop them straight in the washing machine as I know I will need them soon.  With his eczema-mucky sheets, I can usually just change the top sheet.  However, a wet bed means stripping the top sheet, the bottom sheet (there to protect him from the mattress protector) and the anti-allergy mattress protector.  The extra sheet is there as on some days I suspect it’s that that causes him to be so itchy in the night.

My laundry schedule doesn’t currently allow for wet beds and eczema.

Think I need to check the budget for another set of 100% cotton sheets and duvet cover.

My son has atopic eczema and he reacts badly to dairy, soya and we are slowly working towards him eating eggs again. He's had a mild anaphylactic reaction to peanuts and has regular flare-ups to random things that we rarely manage to pinpoint.
