Recurrent bladder infections
Since having the menopause I have had a lot of infections, have taken a lot of antibiotics and am now worried I could get used to them. Is there another treatment I can use instead?

Re: Recurrent bladder infections
Thank you for this question as it is not an uncommon problem affecting women after the menopause. Previously, your own natural oestrogen provided a protective effect to the urinary tract in terms of infection prevention and the menopause means that the acidity(pH) of the vagina has changed making you more susceptible to a UTI.
It is worth discussing with your GP whether topical oestrogen might be beneficial in your situation as topical oestrogen has been shown in studies to decrease recurrent UTIs in postmenopausal women. Also on the BAUS website (www.baus.org.uk) in the patient information section ("I think I might have"), there is a good advice/information sheet for women with what they can do to help reduce the risk of recurrent UTI and you might find that useful.
