My 16 year old daughter

My daughter is really struggling with her eczema and red flushing on her face and bouts of raised temperature. Been to GP who told her to use her steroid cream and no emollient as it dilutes it!!!!!
She has recently done her mock GCSE and I feel stress is playing a part as she has really pushed herself and now is worn out. Please has anyone got any thought on what to do she is so distressed?
Thanks

Hugs! Steroid cream shouldn't be used on face, and if yes, the mildest. See a specialist and explore non-steroid cream like topical calcineurin inhibitor. Washing face, without soap and I think if it's dry, it would need moisturizing. Also any hair products that may have ingredients that irritate the face? Consider patch testing to find out what ingredients she's sensitive to. Diet? More vege, fruits, less inflammatory foods like sugar. Don't scratch.. the scarring can be permanent. Raised temperature could be sign of infection - do see a specialist, hugs!
p.s. stress triggers eczema for many teens going thru exams, always hear it as an issue in my support group, hugs!

Re: My 16 year old daughter

Hi I am 16, having recently done my mock gcses and am in the same boat where stress seems to be the underlying reason why I have suddenly developed eczema. The school has recently flagged me up as someone who possibly has some form of anxiety disorder and I know they are looking at having me in a room with far fewer people in to do my exams. Mock gcses were horrible for me because I knew I had to get good grades to get into my college of choice but I follow what some describe as 'catastrophic thinking'? In my head going from a to b to c gets steadily worse and I often think of worst case scenarios. I wonder if you spoke to the school they would be able help In anyway?
Hope this helps

Re: My 16 year old daughter

I get eczema really bad on my face too and again mine started around the time of my exams. I disagree with the doctor telling you emollient dilutes the steroid. A mild steroid should only be used on the face anyway... I use an emollient called hydromol and i share by it! I find having a bath and soaking off any dead skin gently rather than picking at it and then covering myself in hydromol which is a lot like Vaseline really helps especially before bed and then putting steriod on when it's all soaked in... My dermatologist said hydrocortizone is for the face and possibly eumovate rarely but nothing stronger you have to be careful about red skin syndrome which can be the same as eczema....
Maybe try a steroid ointment rather than a cream I find them much less drying
The topical calcineurin inhibitor is definitely worth looking Inti as it is less damaging to thin skin on the face :)

Hope this helps :)
