Eczema and the pill

i was just browsing the your stories section and i noticed a post by a lady saying that the contraceptive pill caused her skin to flare up and that her skin was always worse when on the pill.
i was just wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences as i'm now wondering if its affecting my skin.
any thoughts or comments welcome.

Re: Eczema and the pill

I haven't had any adverse reactions, but I can see that it might be possible.

If you do think that the pill is causing a break out you should talk to your dr.- they'll either disprove the rumour or maybe get you on a pill with a different hormone levels.

Re: Eczema and the pill

cheers for ur reply.
i went to the docs today anyway - asked about the pill and she said its different for everyone. (as annoyingly is always the case with eczema!! grrrrr) basically some people's hormones make their skin worse - so the pill helps by regulating them. some people are worse with the pill cos it upsets their natural balance. so it really depends! i hate that most of all about eczema i think! the fact that you have to try everything to find out what works for you! anyway - i'm gonna give the pill a break and see how my skin is - there's only one way to find out lol!

Re: Eczema and the pill

Like i said it really depends on each person's personal hormones - some will be messed up by the pill and others will find the pill regulates them better. i have stopped taking it now just to see if i notice a difference as annoyingly that is really the only way of finding out!!!
My doc has told me to leave it 3 months with any change in the pill before you can really tell the difference as it takes your body a while to get used to the change. if you are worried, ask your doc or dermatologist and see what they think.
hope this helps :)

Re: Eczema and the pill

Hi,

I started getting eczema around 2 years ago very badly, have had phototherapy, been on ciclosporin and many different creams. The other day I was really thinking what has happened in the last 2 years and I realised I changed my pill. My doctor said it was very unlikely that this was causing my eczema. I had been on previous pills and not had eczema but I changed to femodene on the year my skin started to flare up. I have recently come off the pill, and yes I still get dry skin, I am using lots of creams still but it doesn't look red and blotchy like eczema does, it is just a bit dry. On top of this, I am not very itchyat all. I'm basically eczema free. It has only been 2 weeks so I will report back but so far, so good.... I recommend people try it!

Re: Eczema and the pill

I've been on birth control for more than a year now, and i started getting eczema about four months ago, on my fingers. My doctor prescribed me a cream, so I used that, but then the eczema spread to my legs and arms. I honestly have no idea why I got this, and so I'm exploring.
So, is it possible to get an eczema from birth control pills as a delayed reaction?
