My 3yr old suffers horribly with Eczema

My son is three and suffers horribly with eczema as well as many allergies to go along with it :( my issue is with all the different steroid creams that the Doctors prescribe for him and how bad are they really ? He absolutely hates when I apply the cream on him he screams that it burns him its horrible. I would love some input on a more natural remedy to use on his delicate little skin and what foods I should absolutely avoid because at this point I almost feel everything he eats lately causes a flare up.

Re: My 3yr old suffers horribly with Eczema

Hi Dionne,

Hugs, and so sorry to hear that your 3 yo is having so much problem! My daughter has eczema too, but very much under control now. A few things I can think of:
1. Allergy testing - not all eczema is triggered by food, house dust mite is fairly (more) common for older kids
2. Make sure you're seeing a pediatric dermatologist/specialist so that they stock the milder steroid cream + have experience on for how long/how frequent you should apply these. Steroid cream do have side effects, but it's safe if used as prescribed, generally mild to mid potency for kids and no more than twice a day.
3. Explore wet wrap, swimming, bleach bath, chlorhexidine
4. On the stinging, I'm not sure about that. Some parents say kids say that, but I'm not sure if it's because of the broken skin from scratching.. i.e. put anything will also sting, or just the steroid cream?
5. Moisturize lots, but choose one without main irritants.

Hope that helps a lil, plus lots of hugs!

Re: My 3yr old suffers horribly with Eczema

Sorry to hear about your child. There are other factors that are contributing to the problem and until those are corrected the problem will continue.

Problem 1: Your laundry detergent contains harmful toxins that is irritating your child's skin. The store brands that I assume you are using contain harmful preservatives like formaldehyde.

Solution 1: Use laundry detergent, dry sheets, and fabric softeners that do not contain harmful preservatives.

Problem 2: The soaps and bodywashes that you buy in stores that are suppose to soothe your child's skin does not work well because the contain the harmful toxins/preservatives mentioned above. The have to be able to last for long periods of time setting in warehouses. The product could 2-3 years old by the time you buy it.

Solution 2: Use soaps and bodywashes free from the toxins mentioned above.

Problem 3: The same things with the lotion that you use.

Solution 3: Use a lotion that does not contain those toxins.

Eliminating the use of the products above and replacing them with products that do not contain the harmful preservatives/toxin you will see a drastic improvement in you child's condition. I know of many testimonies where this has worked. I would love to speak with you concerning this matter and get you copies of some testimonies as well.

Re: My 3yr old suffers horribly with Eczema

Hi!

Hope your child's eczema is better. On laundry, if you don't have an allergy care cycle, washing the clothes twice will get rid of more detergent residue. It's very difficult to find one totally free of potential irritants, so just washing twice or longer cycle is easier.
Choose products that are without the top irritant ingredients, like color, preservatives, propylene glycol. Other than that, a parent has already loads to worry about and very energy strenuous to take care of a child with eczema. Don't be overly hung up on that everything around the baby is toxic. Get allergy tested, feed healthily, sheets etc once/week wash in 60degC water for the dust mites.. Hugs!
