My Story:

Find Mike

Thursday 29 May 2014 – A glittering premiere was held at the British Film Institute in London’s Southbank last week, for the film ‘Finding Mike’.

The 45 minute documentary, follows the story of 27 year-old mental health campaigner Jonny Benjamin as he searches for the stranger who talked him out of taking his own life on Waterloo bridge six years ago.

Jonny worked with the charity Rethink Mental Illness to launch the search in January this year. The campaign soon went viral, with the hashtag #Findmike trending across the globe.

After two weeks, 31 year-old personal trainer Neil Laybourn from Surrey came forward and identified himself as the real ‘Mike’ and the pair were reunited. You can watch Jonny's story for yourself on YouTube below.

Jonny and Neil have remained firm friends and both attended the premiere, along with a host of celebrities including Vanessa Feltz and TV presenter Anna Williamson.

The film was made by the independent production company Postcard Productions and is also available online at rethink.org/findmike.

American indie-folk band Bon Iver are supporting the project and have donated a track which is used in the film.

The premiere was sponsored by Legal & General.
