Patient charities Prostate Action and The Bob Champion Cancer Trust have teamed up with NHS Choices and talkhealth to present an Online Clinic on Prostate Disease.
Clinical experts will be available to answer all your questions about issues surrounding prostate disease, offering advice on prostate health, treatments and also to provide you with valuable help and guidance.
Our experts have a wealth of knowledge and information they can share with you. From 25 November - 1 December 2011 you can post the questions that you would like our panel of experts to comment on, and enter into discussions with the experts. Mr Christopher Eden - Consultant Urologist Mr Christopher Eden is a Consultant Urologist at The Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford and The Hampshire Clinic, Old Basing. He qualified in 1985 from King's College Hospital, London, winning the Surgery and Paediatric prizes. Trained in Urology at King’s College, St Thomas’ and Guy’s Hospitals in London; awarded Master of Surgery thesis in 1997 for investigating the use of alternative tissue approximation techniques for laparoscopy. Mr Eden is the author of 32 papers, 9 chapters and 1 book on laparoscopic surgery. He performed the first laparoscopic pyeloplasty in the UK in 1994, first laparoscopic radical prostatectomy in the UK in 2000 and first laparoscopic radical cystectomy in the UK in 2001. He has the largest experience in the UK of minimal access radical prostatectomy and has performed over 2,500 major laparoscopic operations. He was described in a poll of 40 Consultant Urologists in 2010 as ‘probably the leader in the field of keyhole radical prostatectomy’. |

Mr Omer Karim - Consultant Urologist Mr Karim was nominated one of the top robotic surgeons for prostate cancer in 2010 and has been a consultant urological surgeon in the Thames Valley area for 17 years and St Mary’s Paddington since 2005. He specialises in diseases of the prostate and kidney with a particular expertise in robotic surgery for prostate and kidney cancer. He has a special interest in green light laser surgery, stone surgery and robotic surgery. He is also a consultant robotic surgeon to St Mary’s, Paddington, a UK trainer in robotic surgery and examiner for in-service examination for urology trainees. |

Dr Jon Rees - GP Dr Jon Rees is a GP working in Nailsea, North Somerset. Before General Practice, he was a Surgical SHO in Taunton, passing the MRCS in 1999. He then spent three years as a Clinical research fellow in Urology, and was awarded his MD thesis in 2003 for his research on quality of life in patients with advanced prostate cancer and their partners. He continues with an interest in urology, working with three consultants to provide a ‘Primary Care Diagnostic Urology Service’ to two PCTS, and has been on the guideline development group for the NICE ‘Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms in Men’ guideline, published in 2010.

Mr Declan Cahill - Consultant Urological Surgeon Mr Declan Cahill is a Consultant Urologist at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Hospital Trust and London Bridge Hospital. His specialist and academic interests include prostate cancer, laparoscopy (keyhole surgery for prostate and kidney problems) and general urology. He undertook a fellowship in Paris at Institute Montsouris where he learnt his complex laparoscopic skills to perform laparoscopic radical prostatectomy and nephrectomy. He also has experience in High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) using the Ablatherm system for certain patients with prostate cancer. |
