Dr Anton Bungay
Consultant Gastroenterologist - MA MB BChir MRCP PhD
Dr Bungay received his degree in medicine from Trinity College, University of Cambridge in 1997 and was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2000 and earned a PhD from University College London in 2008, having completed a period of scientific research at the Royal Free Hospital.
His specialist training in gastroenterology and general medicine was at a variety of hospitals in North London and on completion of this he went abroad for a year to work as a Clinical Fellow in Inflammatory Bowel Disease at the University of Toronto based at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
Under the direction of Professor Fred Saibil, Dr Bungay was able to treat patients presenting with the full spectrum of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis and therefore he is trained to manage both complicated and less complicated disease.
Dr Bungay was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist at Kingston Hospital in 2009 and sees patients on the NHS at Kingston Hospital where he is the lead for the Inflammatory Bowel Disease service.
Apart from patients presenting with Crohn's and colitis symptoms he sees a large number of patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, heartburn and indigestion, abnormal liver tests, change in bowel habit, rectal bleeding and Coeliac disease. In addition he undertakes routine colonoscopy and gastroscopy which are important investigations in many of the patients he treats.
