Having qualified from Oxford and London, Dr Maruthappu has gained over 10 years experience in Dermatology and has completed a highly competitive MRC PhD Fellowship and a further Fellowship in Medical Dermatology at the St John's Institute of Dermatology. Her research has been published in major journals such as "Nature Communications" and the "Journal of Investigative Dermatology". She has received multiple national and international awards for her research, including from the BAD, BSID and RSM. Her clinical and research interest is the skin and its links to internal disease. She runs a severe psoriasis clinic at the Royal London Hospital and works jointly with the Rheumatology team to provide a multidisciplinary, holistic management for these patients.
