Karen is a qualified generic counsellor, trained in suicide intervention strategies with a special interest in the effect of sudden death. Working for the charity since 2006, she has been supporting people affected by epilepsy related death through their bereavement journey, including the often traumatic experiences of the coronial process.

Working with the bereaved to make a difference for people living with epilepsy, her specific work includes working with researchers to develop projects; developing and carrying out in-depth research interviews with the bereaved and providing after care; managing the support service; providing training and talks on epilepsy mortality and risk reduction, together with the development and management of the Epilepsy Deaths Register.
