Diabetes UK is a charitable organisation, set up in 1934 as the Diabetic Association by novelist HG Wells and RD Lawrence to ensure that everyone could gain access to insulin and the support needed to live with the condition. With over 300,000 supporters Diabetes UK is the leading UK charity that cares for, connects with and campaigns on behalf of all people affected by and at risk of diabetes.
They help people manage their diabetes effectively by providing information, advice and support. They campaign with people with diabetes and with healthcare professionals to improve the quality of care across the UK’s health services. They fund pioneering research into care, cure and prevention for all types of diabetes. They campaign to stem the rising tide of diabetes.
HEART UK is the nation’s cholesterol charity. We're passionate about preventing premature deaths caused by high cholesterol, one of the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
Six out of ten adults in the UK have raised cholesterol. 1 in 500 people are born with an inherited high cholesterol condition called Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH). The majority of people with FH remain undiagnosed and untreated. If untreated, they are at high risk of a heart attack, stroke or sudden death in their 20s, 30s and 40s. HEART UK is lobbying for change to improve the detection of FH in families.
The HEART UK helpline is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 3pm – telephone 08454 505 988 and a website full of information.
Beat is the UK’s eating disorders and eating problems charity. We support those with an eating disorder and problems as well as their family and friends.
We provide information and support through our Helplines which people can call, text or email, a UK wide network of self help and support groups and online support including message boards, online support groups and HelpFinder, a directory of support services.
