#TalkSchizophrenia – tweetchat 10th October

To mark World Mental Health Day (#WMHD17), Janssen and talkhealth will be hosting a tweetchat on 10th October focusing on schizophrenia. We welcome anyone who is interested or affected in some way by this condition to take part.

The aim of the tweetchat is to explore the impact of schizophrenia and to address the stigma surrounding this condition. We hope to encourage more open discussions between healthcare professionals and patients living with schizophrenia.

The tweetchat will be hosted on Tuesday 10 October, to run for 1 hour (start time 12:00 BST / 13.00 CET). The hashtags to follow are #TalkSchizophrenia and #WMHD17.

Areas for discussion will cover:

  • What’s the best way to look after your mental health?
  • We’ve come a long way in destigmatizing mental health issues such as anxiety and depression, why does schizophrenia remain a taboo?
  • How can we address the stigma faced by people living with schizophrenia?
  • What are the major barriers to open conversations between patients and healthcare professionals?
  • How can we help support people living with schizophrenia?

Education is one of the most important factors in helping and supporting those with schizophrenia. The video below shows that effective treatment may allow people to enjoy a more fulfilling life, along with looking at the results of a recent survey carried out by Janssen in September 2017.

This tweetchat will discuss living with schizophrenia, including its impact on patients, carers and their relationship with healthcare professionals. We very much welcome and encourage your comments and the sharing of your personal experience. The discussion is not intended to discuss any specific treatment, product or brand nor to discuss diagnostic or medical advice for any individual patient. Please refer to your healthcare professional for any question about your treatment or condition.

After the tweetchat, we will compile your contribution into a Storify article that will be published on this page. Thank you for your participation!

How to get involved?
Start retweeting #TalkSchizophrenia, and feel free to post your questions or opinions and invite anyone you know who might be interested in the event. Remember to use the #TalkSchizophrenia so that we don’t miss your post! Be ready to join us on the 10th October and we will look forward to chatting with you.

If you aren’t free on the 10th October, don’t worry, we will be documenting the chat in a Storify for everyone to read the tweetchat.
