A new scheme funded by the NHS has been launched for those prescribed a new medication for an pre-existing, long-term condition or when newly diagnosed. The initiative is based around consultations with your local pharmacist to support you over the first several weeks of taking a new medicine.

It is hoped that as most problems arise when starting new medication this will help people to use their medicine safely and to best effect.

This service is only available in England and only for those who have been prescribed a new medicine for asthma, COPD, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or if they have been given a new blood-thinning medicine.
