According to the newspapers today, reported cases of gonorrhoea are soaring amid warnings that sexually transmitted diseases are becoming resistant to treatments.
Diagnosed cases are up by a quarter to around 21,000 in 2011. As a result the Health Protection Agency have launched a new campaign to tackle what they believe is a major public health concern.
The biggest group of people affected are males aged between 20-24 years old, and females aged 16-19 years old.
The highest rates are in London and other urban areas.
