When it comes to medical conditions declared by older travellers, the latest figures from Staysure, specialist insurers for the over-50s reveal that:
- High cholesterol, high blood pressure, hypertension, Type 2 diabetes, asthma, heart attack and arthritis consistently top the list of medical conditions declared by older Staysure travel insurance customers during their application
- In 2011 high cholesterol was ranked number 1 in the list of medical conditions for would-be travellers, but dropped to number 2 in 2012, when high blood pressure topped the list of declared conditions
- For 2012 more travellers had experienced coronary angioplasty than the previous year, moving the condition up in the ranking of medical conditions to 8th, from 10th in 2011
- In 2012 Joint replacement entered the top 10 ranking (non-trauma)
