We’re always striving to maintain a happy and healthy body and we all have different goals. Whether you’re aiming to lose weight or just increase your overall health then you’re going to need two things; a well-balanced nutritious diet and plenty of exercise. Simple as that.

All too often people mistake losing weight with eating less food, when you should really be focussing on what it is you’re eating, and not the quantity. You should be filling your diet with superfoods that will support your body and enhance your health. Listen to your body, understand what it needs and how you can fulfil this.

Start with the supermarket. You can pick up loads of amazing superfoods on your weekly shop, you don’t have to trawl all your local health food shops for these!

Blueberries

These berries certainly pack a punch! Blueberries are a natural antioxidant and can help remove toxins from your body. They also taste great, eat them as a snack or sprinkle on top of some yogurt and granola for breakfast or a mid-morning pick me up.

Kale

Social media peeps love kale, and for good reason too! These green stalks of goodness are bursting with fibre, in fact one cup contains 2.3 grams! It’s also great for increasing your calcium and iron levels. Vegetarians should invest in kale to build up their iron stocks. If you don’t like the taste then consider using it in a smoothie instead, whizz it up with some other green veg and fruit to make a green machine!

Oranges

See, told you that you could pick most of this up at the supermarket! Oranges are very rich in vitamin C and fibre.  They also promote the breakdown of fats in your stomach, vitamin C promotes the production of carnitine in your body which breaks down fatty acids. Oh and they’re great for curbing those pesky sugar cravings too!

Yoghurt

Did you know that yoghurt is high in protein? Just make sure you opt for a low-fat version! It makes for a great breakfast mixed with some natural honey!

Avocado

The avocado obsession continues! Quick fact – did you know an avocado is formally classed as a berry? I bet you didn’t know that! The avocado is amazing, it makes our salads much tastier and it’s great for dips, I mean, who doesn’t love guacamole? The healthy fats help keep your heart in shape and they contain 20 different vitamins and minerals! Chips and dip anyone?

Goji Berries

Another berry packed with amazing benefits! The goji berry is full of iron and amino acids, they’ll do wonders for your energy levels making them the perfect on-the-go snack. They can be a little bitter however, so sprinkle onto your yogurt or pop them into a smoothie.

Ginger

If you suffer from digestive issues then ginger is the way forward! It can relieve gastrointestinal irritation and encourage the movement of food through the GI tract. Did you know ginger is also great for burning body fat? Research has shown that ginger can reduce your appetite, find more fat burning foods here.

Oily Fish

Fish such as tuna, mackerel and salmon are all packed with omega-3 and can also help to regulate your cholesterol levels as well as acting as a natural anti-inflammatory. Add oily fish into your diet twice a week to maintain a healthy heart!

Add these superfoods into your regular diet and eating habits and you’ll be healthy and feeling the benefits in no time! Don’t forget, although as much as healthy living is about eating, try and incorporate exercise into your lifestyle too! Whether it’s a 30 minute brisk walk a day or an exercise class, get your body moving!
