BAD

The British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) is a charity whose objects are the practice, teaching, training and research of Dermatology. It works with the Department of Health, patient bodies and commissioners across the UK, advising on best practice and the provision of Dermatology services across all service settings. It is funded by the activities of its Members.

Established in 1920, it is a registered charity with an incorporated body of trustees, the Executive Committee, who are all dermatologists elected by the membership. The officers, supported by the professional staff carry out the day to day business from Willan House, the headquarters building in central London.

The BAD works with many other organisations to achieve its aims of supporting patients and improving standards. These include Patient Support Groups, Special Interest Groups, International Dermatology Groups and the Medical Royal Colleges.

Sun Awareness Campaign

The BAD is dedicated to public education initiatives. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the UK with over 100,000 people being diagnosed every year. The BAD’s Sun Awareness Campaign, sponsored this year by La Roche-Posay, brings sun safety advice and early detection practices to thousands of people.

The BAD’s Sun Awareness Week, May 4th-10th, marks the launch of the charity’s initiative every year. Previous Sun Awareness Weeks have seen Olympic heroes, Louis Smith and Greg Rutherford, swap their Team GB kit for lifeguard shorts in aid of raising public awareness. This year, the BAD will be setting up an educational mole check at Westfield Shopping Centre, Shepherd’s Bush on May 9th and 10th.

Following Sun Awareness Week, the BAD, supported by La Roche-Posay, will be taking the Be Sun Aware Roadshow along to some of the country’s top events. Visiting BBC Gardener’s World and the New Forest County Show, the Be Sun Aware roadshow will be delivering lifesaving advice to the thousands who visit.
