Julie Thompson is a Health and Care Professions Council registered Specialist Gastroenterology Dietitian working in the NHS and private practice. She started work at North Manchester General Hospital in general dietetics and then joined Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust in 2008, specialising in gastroenterology dietetics in 2009. She changed roles in 2016 and now is working for Salford NHS Foundation Trust as a Gastroenterology Dietitian. She also has practice privileges for a clinic at the Spire Elland Hospital. She has interests in gastroenterology and has experience in treatment of food intolerances and dietary treatment of conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease, colitis and coeliac disease. She is a diet advisor at The IBS Network, the UK charity for people with IBS and has experience in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with diet, including being trained to use The Low FODMAP dietary approach. Author of IBS dietary advice to calm your gut and writer, she has written for the Guardian, The Daily Mail, British Journal of Nursing, Nurse Prescribing Magazine, Sainsbury’s Magazine, Network Health Dietitians Magazine and GUT Reaction. Professionally, she is a member of the Gastro Specialist Group of the British Dietetic Association and was a member of the working group developing the UK diet practice guidelines for IBS.
