Let’s talk constipation...
We all know when something doesn't feel right don't we?
You know what's normal for you, but we're all different. When you talk to other people about how you're feeling, you'll realise how much the symptoms vary too. Some people get a tummy ache, feel bloated or a bit sick – or even lose their appetite.
But if you're not having a poo as often as usual, you're straining or having difficulty passing a poo, this is known as constipation.
Most of the time, constipation is nothing to worry about and your body may return to it's normal rhythm within a few days but sometimes your digestive system might just need a helping hand.
Bowel Cancer UK
Bowel Cancer UK aims to save lives and improve the quality of life for all those affected by bowel cancer. We are passionate about making sure people know the symptoms and understand how important it is to go to their GP if they have concerns, so that bowel cancer can be ruled out or diagnosed quickly. We also encourage people to take part in screening and to improve their bowel health and stack the odds against the disease by making simple changes to their diet and lifestyle.
Every year in the UK, nearly a million children struggle with wetting or soiling problems, but the very nature of the issue means it is often hidden and not talked about. Feeling unable to discuss what is happening, families often think they are the only ones coping day in and day out with the effects of a child with a wetting or soiling condition. ERIC is dedicated to raising awareness and reducing the stigma of these problems and we offer information and support to help families manage or overcome them.
Bladder & Bowel Foundation
The Bladder and Bowel Foundation (B&BF) is the only UK wide charity dedicated to helping people manage their continence needs as a result of both bladder and bowel control problems. B&BF provides information and support services, including a confidential helpline, for anyone affected by these conditions, as well as their families, carers and healthcare professionals. The charity is passionate about raising awareness of these often hidden conditions and campaigns for better services, treatments and products by working with researchers, individuals and other related organisations. B&BF aims to make a real difference to the lives of those living with bladder and bowel control problems and will work towards delivering the kind of services that meet the needs of people affected.
The IBS Network
The IBS Network is the National charity supporting patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and their families and carers. Founded in 1991 the Network offers help & information to both patients and Health Care Professionals on how to better manage symptoms of IBS through various publications, the IBS Network website and new online Self-Care Plan, advice from dietitians, expert medical telephone helplines, monthly newsletters, free online community forums and much more.
Core is a national charity working to fight all diseases of the gut, liver and pancreas. We work across three areas: supporting medical research that looks for cures and improved outcomes; providing evidence-based information to patients; and raising awareness of good digestive health and the diseases that affect the digestive system.
