Re: Dapagliflozin

Please request that you are examined in the vulval area so a clinical judgement can be made on the cause for your symptoms. LS usually has quite typical features on examination. It is important that your diabetes is adequately controlled so please ensure that any change in diabetic medication is mon...

Re: Inflammation

'Inflammation with no abnormality' is quite non-specific as does not state the type of inflammation found. There are different cell types found in inflammation as well as features seen in the structure of the skin cells which can steer towards the cause for the changes. It is important that a biopsy...

Re: Treatment for LS damaging my bowel

From your description, it sounds like you have a posterior vaginal prolapse. This is a bulge of tissue into the vagina. It happens when the tissue between the rectum and the vagina weakens or tears. This causes the rectum to push into the vaginal wall. Posterior vaginal prolapse is also called a rec...

Re: Skin break down with sores and itchy

I seem to get less than 5 weeks into my treatment (Dermovate nightly 4 weeks then every other night) before my skin 'breaks down' purple/red and looks like sores and just as itchy. Should I continue to use Dermovate now or wait for the skin to heal a little? This sounds like active LS from your desc...

Re: Trigger for Lichen Scelerosus

The trigger factors for LS are not currently well understood. However, it is known to occur in areas of trauma/scars, this is known as the 'koebner phenomenon'. This is sometimes seen on non-genital skin too. I'm afraid it is not possible to say whether the Fentons' procedure and subsequent overgran...

Re: Newly diagnosed with Lichen Sclerosus

Increase in fragile skin/splits/soreness can be a sign of LS being active. Initial treatment for three months- daily x 1 month, alternate days x 1 months then twice weekly x 1 month - is recommended from the British Association of Dermatologists https://www.bad.org.uk/pils/lichen-sclerosus-in-female...

Re: Clob Cream Regime

Small fissures (cuts) are a sign of LS activity and it is therefore possible that you have more active LS around the clitoral area. If you need to increase frequency for a flare of symptoms, you can go back to the original regimen of once daily for one month. although it may not be needed for this l...

Re: Steroid - how long does it take to sink into the skin?

Usually the topical steroid is applied once daily. It can be at any time although night time application is generally recommend so that it is less likely to be rubbed off by clothes or toilet roll. If you do apply it in the day time, please remember it is best to have a gap between applying your ste...

Re: Biopsy result times

I acknowledge how frustrating and worrying this must be for you. Unfortunately, due to pressures on NHS services, biopsy results for non-cancer cases can take some weeks to be reported. Your biopsy specimen will have been preserved in formalin and so it will not deteriorate during its time spent in ...

Re: Dermovate use and doubting I have LS

Not everyone with LS experiences itching. Some experience pain/discomfort/irritation instead. Only LS and lichen planus cause changes to the anatomy and treating these should reduce progression of fusing, which has happened in your case. You also describe that the white patch has gone. The pain you ...
