It is interesting that Dr Jonathan Kerr identified subgroups in myalgic encephalomyelitis some years ago. The MRC apparently refused him further funding for his research, preferring instead to fund psychiatrists' research into behaviour management of fatigue.

Thank you Chris, but my question was about us causing autism in our children by unwittingly passing the persistent pathogens that cause M.E. to them in via the placenta.

Thank you. it is interesting to note that in the US people with M.E. are being successfully treated with antivirals whilst in the UK we are being offered largely ineffectual behavioural management techniques.

Tests for persistent viruses are not available on the NHS although a number of such viruses have been implicated in myalgic encephalomyelitis. Why is it just assumed that any viruses we have are necessarily dormant, and that therefore all treatment given must be solely lifestyle management?

Some effective medical treatment would be nice, instead of constantly being told to change our attitudes and lifestyles. There appears to be a larger than average number of women with myalgic encephalomyelitis who report having children on the autistic spectrum. Is this being investigated please? Could an as yet unidentified persistent pathogen that causes M.E. be transmitted via the placenta, and be causing the child...

Thank you. I'd like to know much more about this as I can trace some of my symptoms to just after a polio vaccine in the 1950s.

The deliberate exclusion of the severely affected, a quarter of all sufferers, from the PACE trial must have greatly influenced the outcome.
