Re: Lamellar ichthyosis
Odour is usually a sign of germs such as Staphylococcus or fungi so skin swabs to see what's there and antiseptic wash lotion eg. Dermol 500 should help. It is more common in Bullous Ichthyosis than Lamellar. The QV should be a cream in a pump to avoid it becoming contaminated (which can happen with...

Re: Bullous Ichthyosis - Infection Question
I agree with Dr Mary Glover's comments. People with BIE do get repeated Staph infections any and everywhere but moreso on face and hands, perhaps because of trauma. This impetigo can lead to more blisters and a bad 'flare'. They can have eczema which itself is generally contaminated with Staph. and ...

Re: Ichthyosis vulgaris and aging
It would be unusual for Ichthyosis Vulgaris to be so troublesome. It's usually mild, improves with sunshine and age but is associated with Eczema in many affected people. So you need a definite diagnosis. Were you a Collodion Baby; anyone in the family affected? Can you send photos to ISG? IV is due ...

Re: Ichthyosis and diabetes
I'm not aware that Type 2 Diabetes is more common in people with XLRI. People with diabetes do get various skin problems and I suppose that could include dryness.

Re: X-Linked Ichthyosis
There are a few sibling pairs with X-linked recessive ichthyosis and they are generally affected in the same way as regards skin. If a child with XLRI also had a Filaggrin mutation that causes Ichthyosis Vulgaris (10% of the population) they might be more severely affected. Boys with XLRI may have d...

Re: Bad eczema problem since young
Eczema is inflammed and itchy skin and treatment has to include moisturizers, anti-inflammatory treatment and antibiotics when needed. You will know this, as a life-long sufferer and also that there is no cure or quick fix. You are using moisturizers and they should be creamy (non-greasy) in the day...

Re: Treating and preventing Pompholyx eczema
Pompholyx is blistering eczema on the thick skin of the hands and feet. It can occur in people who had (childhood) eczema before but can affect people who never had eczema. It's more common in folk who have wet hands (mechanics, cooks, nurses and especially hairdressers) due to irritation / chemical...

Re: Advice needed!
Sorry to hear you are suffering from what sounds like infected scalp eczema. Have you seen a dermatologist? You should have full skin exam, review of current skin treatment and skin swabs to see what germs are on your skin. That will help to guide correct antibiotic treatment (you will need braoad s...

Re: What should I do?
Your story is unusual. It would help to know your age and any personal or family history of skin problems. You have been told you have eczema but it did not itch or irritate until you used Elocon. Eczema is itchy so could it be something else. We rarely biopsy typical eczema so that's another oddity...

Re: Suitable cream for ichthyosis
Dear Andika, Have you been told what type of Ichthyosis you have? There are 20 + different types of congenital ichthyosis. Some are scaly all over with red or inflammed skin, some people have fragile skin which blisters easily and some have dry scaly skin with eczema. It helps to know which ichthyos...
