Re: Protopic
Hi, If your skin is infected,it's most likely very red, hot, itching unbearably and possibly also oozing. I can relate. You must ensure your skin is covered. This is to protect your vulnerable, broken skin from further injury and also stop the spread of infection to others. So, if it's on your hands...

Re: Travelling by airplane is a nightmare - any advice please?
Hi there, Have you ever worn silk instead of cotton? It maintains a more even body temperature and when cold it insulates. There are a number of silk items intended for eczema sufferers made by Dermasilk (check out their website) and you can also buy silk underclothes from outdoor survival shops. I ...

Re: Eczema and diet
Hi there, I'm so happy for you that you've managed to find what triggered the eczema and can now avoid the problem. You highlight an important point, which many doctors choose to ignore unless their specific allergy blood tests highlight a specific trigger: those blood tests are not always accurate!...

Re: Ciclosporin/Cyclosporin: anyone used it?
Thanks for your reply. I'm so pleased it has worked well for you. It must be such a godsend. I haven't started the course of Cyclosporin, even though I have the 6-week course in a cupboard, waiting. I decided to await the outcome of an appointment I had at the homeopathic hospital first. I'm using t...

Ciclosporin/Cyclosporin: anyone used it?
Hello there, I finally saw the dermatologist after waiting 4 months for the appointment. I've been given a prescription for Ciclosporin and two week's penicillin to begin immediately because the eczema is severe and infected, and there's also increased infection risk while I'm on the drug. Has anyon...

Re: Alternatives to Elidel?
Hi there, I can see your dilemma. Have you tried SOS rescue cream and Neal's Yard calendula cream? I use these in between Dermovate, the most potent topical steroid. SOS rescue cream comes in a body formulation and a hand cream, which is slightly thicker. They are both made from natural ingredients....

Re: MUST READ - Toctino - Just approved for use in the UK
Sounds good. However, I'd proceed with caution, knowing as I already do from others who used a similar drug (vitamin A derivative) for severe acne called Isotretinoin, that it made some severely depressed and suicidal. Here's a link to an article on that particular subject:http://www.medicine.ox.ac....

Re: Dermovate (very potent steroid): any experiences?
Thanks for your replies.
I've tried it on my arms, but am not sure about the neck yet, with it being too near to the thyroid/parathyroid glands and the skin being so much more delicate. I will probably use it very thinly on a small area at the back of the neck to see how well tolerated it is first.

Dermovate (very potent steroid): any experiences?
Hi there, I've now been prescribed Dermovate for the neck, having already used Betnovate, Elocon and Clobetasone steroidal creams/ointments with no effect other than that they dry the skin out. I realise Dermovate is classed as a "very potent steroid" and only to be used for a maximum of 2...
