Re: Vitiligo and skin cancer

The research on vitiligo and skin cancer is interesting. Some research has shown that people with vitiligo are actually less prone to skin cancer :P However we recommend that you take daily vitamin D supplement of at least 10iu or 400mcg and not rely on your sun exposure to get this. You should not ...

Re: Hyperthyroid/Vitilgo connection?

Hi Alyssa, There is a connection between thyroid and vitiligo and unfortunately there is no good reason why you should develop it at this age. Treating your hyperthyroidism does not usually improve the vitiligo or vice versa. If it is symetrical and spreading then early treatment is key to improving...

Re: Super stressed please advise

This looks like an irratated skin tag, but need to be sent for histology when removed to be sure. You may like to call ahead to your insurance and your private doctor to see if you could have a slot where they are able to remove it for you when they see you. I hope that helps I wish you well with tr...

I would agree with Vishal, be careful with these over the counter medications as they can cause scars.

Re: Graves’ Disease & Vitiligo

Hi, Thank you for your question. I have given some answers below although it sounds like you needs to see a doctor who specialises in vitligo in the USA, where treatments are getting better all the time. Good luck! -(1) Do you think my allergies & hormone therapy triggered Urticaria & eventu...

Re: Treatments

Vitiligo is a condition with lots of myths and to take football analogy a ‘game of two halves’. If your husband has very widespread vitiligo then you have to decide whether it is still spreading, if so, you must think about how to stop the spread first. Stopping the spread: Regular use of potent top...

Re: Why does it develop?

There are several theories why vitiligo develops, however no one really knows what initiates the condition to occur. When we look at skin affected with vitligo under the microscope we can see that melanocytes (colour producing cells) are either not present or are not normal and therefore not functio...

Re: Stress and vitiligo

There is no definitive proof that stress causes or exacerbates vitiligo. Anecdotally most dermatologists who see vitiligo patients will get some history of an initiating stressful event or that patients' vitiligo gets worse when they are stressed. Whenever I see someone with vitiligo i always ensure...

Re: Vitiligo treatment for kids

To add to Dr Sheraz's post, I would also consider checking your child's Vitamin D level and ensuring it is adequate, as well as adding in a topical tacrolimus ointment which should help the treatment and progress.
