Re: Hysterectomy and smear tests

Hello Regarding the ovaries, there's some evidence now that ovarian cancer begins in the fallopian tube rather than the ovary so it's always best to have both tubes removed at the time of hysterectomy, something which is usually done if having the ovaries removed at the same time but not always done...

Re: cervical smear

Hello

Do not have intercourse 24 hours before a smear test as spermicidal gel and lubricants may make it difficult to get a good sample of cells from the cervix

Re: Have I waited too long?

Hello So you attended follow up for about 8 years and all was well? I'd view this as very positive and presumably after this time you'd have been discharged back to the national cervical screening programme. If you're not experiencing any symptoms of bleeding after intercourse or discharge then that...

Re: Periods after delivery

Hello Regrettably I don't have a crystal ball, it's impossible to say when your periods will resume and if you're breastfeeding they may not return for quite some time. Don't assume just because you're not having periods that you're not fertile as it's still possible to get pregnant and you may wish...

Re: Lack of menstruation

Hello

Any shock to the system can upset your periods, stress, poor health etc so I suppose it could be possible. Might be worth having a quick ultrasound scan and some simple blood tests just to rule out any other causes such as an ovarian cyst, PCO, menopause or a pituitary issue.

Re: PMDD treatment

Hello Anything that flattens out the hormonal fluctuations associated with ovulatory menstrual cycles The combined contraceptive pill taken continuously can help, other more drastic options would be removal of the ovaries and starting HRT (otherwise you'd hit the menopause like a brick wall!) If con...

Re: scar tissue after c-section - can it cause abdominal pai

Hello

Without the benefit of the scan result or examining you the little granule could be a focus of endometriosis that became implanted in the scar at the time of your c/s, might be worth a referral to a gynaecologist or even a general surgeon for consideration of an excision biopsy.

Re: Prolapse problem

Hello Yes it can be put right but I understand your specialists reluctance to undertake a 3rd operation on the vaginal wall. The risk of failure is very high (over 75%) having already had two failed repairs. The mesh sacrohysteropexy works very well as it is a permanent support unlike simply repairi...

Re: Pelvic congestion

Hello Always a bit of a leap into the dark having a hysterectomy for pelvic pain, It's possible to have an injection that temporarily makes you menopausal which is akin to a medically induced hysterectomy, if the pain goes then there is a good chance the more permanent surgical hysterectomy will wor...
