Re: Interstitial cystitis

I am not aware of any "natural" remedies which have robust data to support their use. Many are tested on small numbers and using poor methods to demonstrate effectiveness. I would recommend a patient support group such as bladder health UK - you tend to get a very truthful opinion from the...

Re: Bladder problems

You are doing the right thing by continuing to seek help. I am sorry the waiting times in your locality are so bad but I'm afraid this is the situation post-COVID all across the UK. I hope when you finally get to your specialist appointment a treatment plan can be created for you. Specialist referra...

Re: Slow urine flow after infection

In terms of the slow flow, I would have thought that any swelling associated with the infection would have subsided after 4 months ( swelling at time of infection is often the cause of slow flow). However I would be keen to ensure the infection has not returned - that would be the first thing to rul...

Re: Stomas - fluid leaking

Sorry for the delay in reply. If you have fluid leaking vaginally then this requires investigation - i would usually do a CT scan to see if we can identify the source and before that we can send a sample of the fluid for testing to see if it is urine. I am limited in terms of what i can advise given...

Re: Restless bladder Syndrome

This is a tricky one. I have only ever seen a handful of such cases - have you tried Amitriptyline at night - this worked well for a couple of my patients.

Re: Sensitive bladder

Have you tried to make the urine more alkaline - commercially available sachets are available from most pharmacies. Other options include taking a medication like Cimetidine which acts on the histamine receptor system - this will need to be prescribed. If you have tried simple measures then seek a r...

Re: Bladder and Bowel Nurse

Not sure about the bowel side of things but for urological nurse education you could look at British association of Urology Nurses or International Continence Society websites.

Re: Catheteriation when having monthly periods

I don't think it is a risk for anything other than urinary infection and how much this increases risk over and above catheterisation is not known. Blood is a very good culture medium for bacteria so theoretically can increase UTI risk.

Re: Issue with catheter use

I would try a softer catheter as it sounds as if the process of catheterisation is causing a bladder spasm and resulting in the expulsion of urine you describe. The botox effect should wear off after 6-9 months.
