Re: How can this suffering be ignored?

You can get a full thyroid screen if you deal direct with the lab yourself. Getting a blood draw from a private clinic or the NHS is about £15. Price for the test is less than £100.... details of labs doing tests on Thyroid patient advocacy and thyroid uk.... At least if you know the results of Free...

Re: Why are people "just left"

This forum must surely be a wake up call to the experts. Usually the forums on here get less than a hundred posts and not many topics..... When I last checked there were 120 topics and over 600 posts.... If we were all happy with the current protocols there would be fewer posts. On our own we are le...

Re: TSH - Why it's useless!

I'm sorry but I cannot allow this assassination of the TSH test to go without comment. The scientific and medical literature contains many hundreds of authoritative articles that attest to its proven clinical value. If it is as bad as you say then why were more than 20 million TSH tests performed i...

Re: Thyroxine does not work

Failure to convert T4 into biologically active T3 is an extremely rare primary condition. On the other hand it is a very common natural defence mechanism for the body to control the conversion of T4 into T3 when there is intercurrent illness of a non-thyroidal nature. Overcoming this natural defenc...

Re: Thyroxine does not work

Isn't thyroxine supposed to have a sucess rate of 85%? That's great for the ones that do well with it (I was one of them for about 10 years) but then once we fall into the forgotton 15%, our problems really start. How can we educate Doctors about what to do when they thyroxine fails? The problem is ...

Re: How can this suffering be ignored?

Dr Lazarus, We all know that this is the answer, and in fact we even feel silly asking the question. What we don't know is haow to persuade our doctors that they should be asking for thryroid tests. And when the labs are asked for tests by the doctors, they frequently don't do the ones that have bee...

Re: TSH refernece ranges

The methods that are used to measure TSH are the same in the UK, the USA and Europe. So the results obtained and the reference ranges quoted by the manufacturers are very similar. The issue is how those reference ranges should be interpreted in practice. TSH is quite tricky in this respect. A distr...

Re: T3/T4

The dosage of T3 given in the current British National Formulary and on the patient information leaflet which comes with the Liothyronine (Goldshield) is a staring dose of between 10 and 20 micrograms going up to 60 daily if required. In a split dose. Are you splitting the dose - i.e. taking it 2 or...

Re: Standards Inconsistent - Thyroid Symptoms

Since when did the statement produced by the BTA and RCP become a guideline? What authority does the BTA have to enforce a guideline? National Guidelines are referred to NICE by the Department of Health and NICE ensure that the guideline is 'created by independent and unbiased advisory committees'. ...
