Short answer to a long question: I think you need to go back to your surgeon and nurse and be as frank as you are here. Depending on the tumour type you could still be suitable for vaginal and/or oral/transdermal estrogen.

I would do a pregnancy test at home, and if it's negative repeat it after a few days to be sure. if any doubt at all ask your GP for an urgent blood test, or if any unusual bleeding or pain go to A&E

Correct, the other options include uterine artery embolization or MR focussed ultrasound. These are not surgical BUT all options including surgery carry a risk of infection, pain, scarring bleeding etc. Hysterectomy is a tiny risk of all fibroid treatments. Some doctors recommend smears within 2 years of first having intercourse. It's true that the national guidelines say not at your age but they also say your symptoms must be taken into account as an individual case, and you must point this out to your doctors as it would be easy to take a smear whils...

It could be a natural change in the vaginal flora, treatable with something like aci-jel or equivalent, or indeed as you say, candidiasis (which should be treated orally and with vaginal pessaries).
