Very sensible advice on diet and lifestyle from the experts on the thread already. The low FODMAP diet is great for the bloating and windy symptoms of IBS, and can be really useful for diarrhoeal symptoms with IBS but it is less useful for constipation symptoms with IBS. There is no set time. The best people to ask would be your surgeon or the cancer nurse specialist who is looking after you.
