Re: Intermittent Lower Right Sided Pain

Depending on how fast transit through your small intestine is, it would normally take anything from 2 hours to 6 hours (average four hours) for food to read the colon. But its never as straightforward as that. Eating a meal may cause the caecum to contract fairly soon and also cause a previous meal ...

Re: Is there nothing really to worry about?

It sounds - to use an old fashioned term - that you are run down and getting a number a symptoms, sime related to infection, others perhaps not. Ask yourself is there any reason for this. Worry, stress, overwork or a distressing episode can depress the immune system and cause a variety of symptoms l...

Re: Patient not recovering

How worrying for you both. The important thing is not so much whether she might have had appendicitis, but what is going on now? The urinary infection should have cleared. You are best dealing with this through your GP. Ask him to screen for any lingering infection or inflammation.

Re: bowel changes

Passing green black stools and fresh clots sounds like you are bleeding from your bowel. A swollen spleen could cause a reduction in blood platelets and increase the tendency to bleed. Taken all together, if you have not seen a doctor recently, I would not wait until Thursday. Call the 'on call doct...

Re: severe IBS symptoms

Hi, As you have ruled out most of the common causes of bad breath - mouth breathing, oral hygeine, tooth and gum disease and constipation, but you have a lot of gas in your gut, I wonder if you might have bacterial overgrowth of the stomach and small intestine. This might occur because an infection ...

Re: diarreah

Clearly not. it sounds as if something has made your bowel very sensitive and reactive. Eating and drinking can cause the colon to contract but only likely to make you incontinent or want to go to the toilet if your bowel has become very sensitive. Perhaps you have have had a bowel infection or chan...

Re: Stoma and diet advice

Ask your doctor to refer you to a gastrointestinal dietitian to advise you what you can eat to lose weight, bearing in mind you have a stoma. Exercise is good but as long as it is done regularly and combined with a healthy diet. Unfortunately a lot of vegetables, esp onions and fruit will tend to in...

Re: Emptying Bowels

It sounds as if your obstetric history has left you with a pelvic floor weakness with an anterior prolapse of the rectum into the vagina when you strain so that you need to press backwards on the vagina to expel a stool. This situation can tend to get worse as you get older and the connective tissue...

Re: Spotting from the bowel

Incontinence pads are a good idea. Pelvic floor exercises are unlikely to help now. And yes, haemorrhoids can cause some inflammation and secretion around the anorectum and could well be contributing to this problem. The continence service are the best people to advise. Besr in mind that having this...

Re: bowel movement problems

This sounds like a problem of bowel regulation. If you haven't already taken this, I would suggest a regular dose of Fybogel either once or twice a day. Also adopt regular eating and exercise/activity habits and allow time to relax and enjoy yourself.
