Re: Itchy, blister like spots on fingers

Sounds very much like pompholyx, a type of hand eczema. This is likely to get worse at times of stress and with irritants including juice from potatoes or citrus. Try using gloves for wet work. Avoid washing your hands excessively and use a moisturiser based wash rather than soap. use a thick greasy...

Re: Face and scalp

Poor you - you really sound like you are suffering. it sounds like you need to see your GP or a dermatologist. It's quite common to see that rosacea or other inflammatory skin conditions will flare during times of intercurrent illness. It is likely that this is caused by activation of the immune sys...

Re: Sensitive skin

Sorry to hear this. It sounds uncomfortable. Are you getting red patches? Are they itchy? Inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema can come on at any time in life, so it's worth visiting your doctor to see whether you might be developing one of these conditions. To try and help with...

Re: Embarrassed teenage daughter

My pleasure!

Quick thought - antihistamine cream can be helpful for bites etc, but a process like this may actually need an oral antihistamine such as cetrizine, used regularly in a preventative manner.

Re: Sensitive skin

Hi there, Sorry to hear this. A few thoughts: Skincare labelling is a minefield. There is much restriction of the use of terms such as 'hypoallergenic'. So often products that are labelled as being suitable for sensitive skin, do contain potential irritants. Could you be allergic to a particular pro...

Re: Sensitive skin

Hi there, We don't tend to recommend exact products. However, stick to unfragranced products, which won't further exacerbate your sensitivity. Switch your normal soap to a moisturiser (emollient) based wash. Pick hand creams with ingredients like shea butter, glycerin and mineral oils - which tend t...

Re: Dry elbows and heels

Hi there,
Sorry this has started happening. It can be very uncomfortable.

Try a cream which contains urea, this is good for intensively moisturiser thicker skin areas or a thick greasy ointment based moisturiser. On your feet, try well fitting socks for enhanced penetration.

Hope this helps.

Re: What do recommend?

It sounds like you've been through an awful lot. For the heels, if you are immobile, you are at higher risk of sores in this area. There are a number of good dressings that can protect the heel area. If the skin becomes dry and cracked, a urea-containing heel balm can be helpful. For the atrophic, t...

Re: Sensitive Skin

HI Kaggi, Sorry to hear this. For the cracked heels, try a product with a high percentage of urea in. There are a number of products available on the market. This can help dissolve away the hard skin. You highlight a good point about psoriasis, that it gets worse at times of stress. Have you tried m...

Re: Embarrassed teenage daughter

Hi there, Sorry to hear about this. Adolescence can be a paritcularly tough time to try and deal with skin conditions. You mention white lumps. Are these like hives? Do they come up and go down within minutes/hours? If so, I wonder if she is getting a form of cold urticaria. Urticaria or hives is a ...
