Re: immunotherapy

Dear Kirstyk33, I am very sorry to hear about how difficult your eczema is! Eczema can be very challenging to manage. I am sure that you are already very good with your skin care and use of topical steroids/ tacrolimus/pimecrolimus. There are other systemic agents besides azathioprine: ciclosporin, ...

Re: PPD allergy

Dear Balfourlee, I totally agree with Dr Bowling and Wendy. I would also stress that it might be helpful to repeat skin patch test. We now see a surge in patients suffering severe allergic reactions to new fragrances and especially a preservative called methylisothiazolinone. I hope this is helpful....

Re: Help with skin condition

Dear Mr Abba, I totally agree with Dr Bowling that we can only offer a very broad advice without seeing your rash in person. There are of course different strengths of antifungal topical preparations and steroid topical preparations available. On a different note, I personally recommend make a gap b...

Re: Vitamin D and tanning

Good evening Annarachel, tanning and vitamin D absorption are not linked inversely, I am afraid. The more you tan the less you absorb vitamin D. The biological purpose of tanning is to (partially!!!) protect you from sun burning and skin cancers. However tan does not protect you very much against sk...

Re: Bullous ichthyosis/EHK

Dear Alex, Good evening. I completely agree with Dr Glover that bullous congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma of Brocq (BCIE) or epidermolytic hyperkeratosis (EHK)) can be very challenging to manage and that it might be helpful if your dermatologists have a particular expertise with blistering forms...

Re: Early sign of vitiligo

Dear Alex, Good evening. Yes this sounds suspicious of vitiligo. Vitiligo may be triggered by trauma so you have to be careful with this. But it may also appear spontaneously. You may want to ask your GP to refer you to a dermatologist for UVB phototherapy or treatment with tacrolimus ointment or pi...

Re: Dry Skin

Dear Poorlyone, I agree with Dr Kownacki and also wonder if you might have seborrhoeic dermatitis. To make it more difficult rosacea may co-exist with seborrhoeic dermatitis - so called spectrum of rosacea and seborrhoeic dermatitis. Flushing and red and pussy spots are features of rosacea and dry i...

Re: is this where I ask a question?

Hello Georgina, I agree with Sheila, by now you probably know what makes your rosacea worse. The good thing is that there are now good treatments for inflammatory rosacea (rosacea with spots) and a good licensed treatment for flushing rosacea (red face rosacea) is coming in January! With best wishes...

Re: Basal Cell Carcinoma Removal

Hello, thank you for your question. Once you had surgery your skin (the scar area) is never as strong as it used to be. In general terms a scar takes about 3 months to get as strong as it can. I completely agree with Dr Murad that you should ask this question your physician (a perfect opportunity is...
