Re: Biopsy
Pre-biopsy multiparametric MRI scanning is certainly gaining traction as it allows targeted prostate biopsy. It's the norm now in West Surrey/North Hampshire. There's now plenty of evidence to support this stance.

Re: Self catheterization
I would return to your urologist to review your options or if you've been discharged ask your GP to re-refer you. Not all options are suitable for all patients.

Re: What age?
Dr Rees is correct to point out that screening for prostate cancer is not mainstream and remains contentious. However, balanced against the risk of over-diagnosis and over-treatment is the reality that one man dies of prostate cancer every hour in the UK and that the latest evidence (from the Swedis...

The infection back-tracked along the sperm carrying tube (vas deferens) into the testicles, causing swelling and pain. The role of the ultrasound was to exclude malignancy (cancer) in the testes. The prostatic en...

Re: No treatment offered
The contrary view is that tumours can and do grow during active surveillance and that the tools used to identify disease progression (PSA and prostate re-biopsy) are inaccurate. You need to understand (and agree to) the downside to active surveillance, as well as the upside. The former is not always...
