Re: weight loss
Hi, hope you are well. Weight loss is not just about calories in v calories out - it is a complete misdirection. Take a look at my post here: http://www.talkhealthpartnership.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=656&t=7482 Instead I would look in the first instance to: Eat only when hungry. Stop eating whe...

Re: calories in vs calories out...
No. Here are some quick generalisations to explain why. We should stop thinking about calories and instead thinking about molecules. Calories are a measure of heat energy. When we think of the mass of a human body, energy is not a consideration. In practice our mass is in the mass of our molecules, ...

Re: 5:2 diet
Nope. The first thing is that this is NOT a diet - it is a way of living. The 5:2 approach is to reduce what we eat to a very low level two days during the week. This allows our body to go from storage mode into release and utilisation mode - known as the post-absorptive phase. Here our body utilise...

Re: limiting food groups e.g. carbs/fat
Ignore the media, listen to me lol ;) Cutting out any food group isn't a good idea. All natural fats are good for us. Proteins are good for us. Carbohydrates are good for us, even sugar if not eaten to excess. Oh, that word. Excess. Excess of anything is bad for us... Reducing fat, or reducing carbo...

Re: Dieting bores me rigid
Don't diet. Simple. They don't work. Over 6 months ANY calorie restrictive diet approach evens out at the same weight lost, if you stick to them. The studies however are showing that long term (1-2years), those who take this approach in most cases end up far fatter - and there are a host of physiolo...

Re: What else can I do to lose weight?
Practical advice. Eat only when hungry. Stop eating when no longer hungry. Drink only when thirsty. Eat natural whole foods properly prepared. Look to foods that are highly nutritious compared to the energy they contain. This will ensure that your body is not deficient in either energy or nutrients....

Re: Can I loose weight on a 2000 kcal diet?
Yes, is the simple answer. Though of course there isn't much information to go on in your post ;) Not that I like counting calories - it is impossible to be accurate outside of a laboratory. Even the World Health Organisation advise against counting calories for that reason. Don't think of calories ...

Re: weight loss and loose skin
Hi, this can be a problem for those who lose a large amount of weight. Here's a very generalised post. 'Fat' is actually little chains of molecules of hydrogen and carbon. Three chains attach themselves to a little 'stick' called glycerol and this is the storage form for fat. This storage form is co...

Re: I am an emotional eater.....
Emotional eating is a major issue for most people. You can always tell emotional eating because you aren't hungry, and you're never satisfied, and when you eat for emotional needs the emotional is never resolved. Emotional eating comes from liking and wanting rather than needing...serotonin being re...

Re: feeling insecure in the gym
Hi John, you are not alone. Lots of people feel the same - I know, I work with these clients often. Firstly, exercise has amazing health benefits, yet, unless you are being really (really!!) clever, is not an effective strategy for weight loss on its own. Use exercise instead to maintain lean tissue...
