Re: Steroid Cream addiction

Thanks for your post. It may be worth considering coming off the steroids. This can be done by using it less frequently or substituting it for a weaker steroid. Non steroidal creams such as pimecrolimus or tacrolimus can also help. This should be done under medical supervision.

Re: 7 year old with eczema

Thanks for your post. Eczema can be made worse by a number of factors including after infections particularly staphylococcal infections. The eczema sounds quite severe in this case and poorly controlled. If he/she has not seen a consultant dermatologist it sounds like they would really benefit from ...

Re: Treating eye eczema

Hi there are various types of eyelid eczema. Sometimes it is seborrheic eczema and this can be improved with antifungal treatment such as ketoconazole shampoo often combined with a short period of mild topical steroid or steroid / antiyeast combination. If this is worse in the summer months then min...

Re: ITCHING

Hi and thanks for your post. It's useful to try and see if there is a trigger that may be making the eczema worse. If its related to the increase in warm weather then taking steps to cool the environment would obviously help. You may need stronger steroid creams or even a short course of steroid tab...

Re: Eczema on feet for first time?

Hi thanks for your post. If ordinary moisturising creams don't help you may need to use steroid creams. Try to wear shoes that allow the feet to breath and are not too tight or occlusive. Your GP may be able to help you organise a patch test as you may have contact allergy (for example to ingredient...

Re: can flare ups be hormone related

Thanks for your post. Eczema that is made worse just before periods has been reported but is rare. This can be due to an autoimmune response to your own hormones such as progesterone or oestrogen. Intradermal tests can help conform the diagnosis. If you do have this then sometimes hormone directed m...

Re: Neck eczema

Thanks for your post. Try and avoid clothing which will rub and irritate the neck. Avoid chains. A mineral sunscreen will help. If emollients make it worse try rose water with glycerol. This is a humectant rather than a lipid emollient and almost never causes irritation but still hydrates the skin. ...

Re: Perspiring increases atopic eczema

Thanks very much for your post. The sodium in sweat can both dry out the can and irritate the skin. Keeping skin well moisturised will help. As will a soap substitute. Steroid creams will help and contrary to popular belief will not cause skin thinning even in aged skin if used properly- episodicall...

Re: Moles and Keratosis Pilaris

Hi. Thanks for your post. Some of the dry skin conditions you mentioned are connected to one other however they are unrelated to the number and type of moles you have

Any mole that is irregular or changing significantly should be checked out.
