Re: Is IBS a condition or weakness that remains with a person throughout life?

Hi Thanks for getting in touch. IBS is a condition where people do experience flare ups and periods of remission and occasionally it can go completely. We would always advise people to see their GP even if they have been diagnosed with IBS for some time if their symptoms change at all. This is reall...

Re: Constipation

Hi Thanks for getting in touch and that is a really good question and well done on your weight loss so far. It is quite common for some people to get constipated when trying weight reducing diets and it is probably worth considering the type of fibre that you are eating - salads are great for gettin...

Re: Diverticulitis

Hi Rosie Yes, I would concur with the high fibre diet - the best way to treat the condition is to keep the bowel moving. If you are not used to a high fibre diet then increase your wholegrain content and fruit and vegetables slowly - one portion per day to allow your bowel to adjust. see here for mo...

Re: Low FODMAP

Hi Keriza71 It is difficult to say what has caused the relapse without knowing what you have eaten. The Low FODMAP diet takes usually around 2-3 weeks to be effective but some people can get results quicker than this. The diet information we use as dietitians is constantly updated we have updates in...

Re: IBS & bowel conditions

Hi I wonder if you have seen the information from the IBS Network? They are the UK charity for people who have been diagnosed with IBS and have lots of information that is available. If you haven't seen the site before it might help you learn more about IBS and perhaps give you some alternatives to ...

Re: I’m so confused with my symptoms

Hi Melissa You mention that you have completed the low FODMAP diet but perhaps not for long enough but not how long you have done it for. If the diet is successful most people will get a good degree of resolution within 3-4 weeks of starting the diet. You should only follow it for a maximum of 2 mon...

Re: IBS

Hi One way of reducing diarrhoea (fast transit) is to try a dietary modification. Please don't be tempted to do this without help, as it is really important your daughter is given the correct advice - not having the correct diet can affect children's growth. A lactose-free diet will help and lactose...

Re: bowel spasms

Hi Sheila Your diet seems overly restricted for a low fodmap diet. You are probably not having much fibre in your diet currently and most people would be able to manage the choices that are normally allowed on the restriction phase. I do wonder if this might help? You don't state however what your b...

Re: IBS Question

Hi Mary I am pleased that you have had some resolution for your symptoms with Aloe Vera but I'm afraid that it should not be advised on a regular basis, as a treatment for everyone with IBS. Aloe Vera can result in diarrhoea and blood electrolyte disturbances, which are not helpful for some people w...
