Re: Darius

Hi there, Darier's disease is a genetic skin condition, so unfortunately can't be cured yet, but there really is a lot that can be done. You need a referral to Dermatology department. Most big hospitals will have at least a few patients with Darier's and some big hospitals have a specialist genetic ...

Re: Problems moisturising my skin

Hi there, Sorry to hear you are suffering. With regards to your seborrheic dermatitis,it might be worth trying a non-steroid antiinflammatory - Elidel or Protopic which might help your skin hold in moisture better. Then have a look at some of the sensitive skin facial brands - go for non-fragranced....

Re: Phebitist

Hi there, Sorry to hear you are suffering. Make sure you are not using any soaps or shower gels to wash with. Keep going with the moisturiser, but I wonder if an anti-inflammatory steroid cream would be more effective than the voltarol to help with the itch. Mild creams won't thin the skin if used a...

Re: Itchy skin around armpits

Hi there, Sounds like it's worse in the winter months? It might be a form of eczema or psoriasis. Is it related to deodorant? Try a sensitive skin brand and use roll on not fragrance. If not, a mild steroid cream might help settle it down? Your GP can suggest a couple. If this still doesn't help, th...

Re: Skin Infections

Hi there, Staphylococcus aureus is very common in the context of eczema, because the eczema weakens the skin barrier and the skin's ability to fight off infection. When the staphylococcus is causing infection, it's important to treat both the infection and the eczema at the same time. However, even ...

Re: Face creams

Hi there, you may be reacting to your creams, but it could just be irritation. You sound like you have eczema and hayfever/rhinitis which sometimes means that your skin barrier is more sensitive to everything, so it may be that your skin is very sensitive. Look for unfragranced creams which are made...

Re: eczema on hands

Hi Karla, Sorry to hear you are suffering. Hand eczema can be very uncomfortable and troublesome. You say you are washing your hands a lot - try using a non-foaming hand wash. Ask your pharmacist about a soap substitute - this will protect your skin barrier function and stop your skin from drying ou...

Re: Back acne & pregnancy

Hi there, Sorry to hear you are struggling! Make sure you're not using any oils, cocoa butter or other things that may block pores. Salicylic acid sprays or washes are a good option for back acne. There are preparations which are combined with azelaic acid. Salicylic acid can be used up to 2% in pre...

Re: Does the temperature of the water contribute to my skin?

Hi Rachel, So sorry to hear you are struggling with your skin. Definitely ask for help! I think the temperature of the water is not helping your sensitive skin. Try and stick with tepid water if you can, but I know it can be hard with the OCD. If you have got redness prone, sensitive skin. Use gentl...

Re: varicose eczema on legs

Hi Linda, Sorry you are struggling with this, it's a really nuisance and unfortunately I see it very frequently in clinic. I think Cetraban is a very good emollient. You can also use it as a wash, because if you have dry skin, using soaps and shower gels will dry it out even more. Then Betnovate can...
