Re: Nodular prurigo

Hello. Balneum itch relief cream and balneum plus bath oil can be helpful for itchy dry skin. Other urea containing moisturisers such as Eucerin and Calmurid can also help. I would also suggest taking an antihistamine regularly.

Re: scalp itchy but no dandruff

Thank you. If you have flaking (dandruff) with the itching it would be worth trying an over the counter shampoo specifically for dry flaky scalp. These usually contain anti-dandruff ingredients such as ketoconazole, piroctone olamine, selenium sulphide or zinc pyrithione. If the scalp is also red/in...

Re: AP and PLE

Hello and thank you for your query. As far as I am aware virtually all sunscreens will contain water as the main ingredient. I think the mainstay of treatment is avoidance of direct sun exposure but also ensuring all physical photoprotective measures are taken eg hats, sunglasses, long sleeves and U...

Re: Schambergs disease

Thank you for your query. Schamberg’s is caused by leakage of the very small blood vessels in the skin known as capillaries. It is a harmless condition but as you state, sometimes the rash can be inflamed and associated with itching. Any physical exercise involving the area affected and external hea...

Re: Petechiae?

Thank you for your information and query. If you are still getting these lesions I would suggest requesting a further biopsy. From the photo it is difficult to be 100% certain but some of the lesions look a little like angiokeratomas/angiomas which are harmless but are nevertheless not the same as p...

Re: Lichen Planus - Dermovate use

Thank you for your query. If the lichen planus recurs soon after stopping Dermovate it may help to taper the treatment more slowly such as twice daily for the first month, then once daily for second month, alternate days for third month and twice a week for the 4th month before stopping. If despite ...

Re: Eczema around mouth

Thank you for your query. If the eczema is a frequently recurrent problem I would agree steroid creams would not be advisable in the long term. You may however benefit from a non-steroid based anti-inflammatory cream (calcineurin inhibitors) which can be prescribed to you via your dermatologist or G...

Re: Lifelong atopic eczema

Thank you for your query. I am sorry to hear of your ongoing difficulty in getting your eczema under control and it certainly sounds like a lot of treatments have already been tried and not worked. I am not sure when some of the stronger medications (immunosuppressants) were prescribed to you but th...

Re: Impetigo

Hi there, Thank you for your query. Impetigo should respond quite quickly to oral antibiotics. If there is underlying eczema this should be treated at the same time as the infection, with appropriate strength steroid creams. If despite this, the skin is not getting better the diagnosis of impetigo w...

Re: Itchy scar

Hi Ken, Thank you for your query. Scars, even if years old, can become itchy and inflamed. I would suggest you see your GP for a prescription of a cortisone (steroid) cream or ointment to use whenever the itching appears. Occasionally if this doesn't settle the itching (and the scar is raised and lu...
