Re: prevent spread

Thank you for taking the time to post a question.

Unfortunately the nature of vitiligo is unpredictable and it is hard to tell how things will progress in the future in an individual. There are no real effective ways of preventing spread as far as I am aware.

I wish you the best of luck,

Anjali

Re: Vitiligo on my face

Many thanks for taking the time to post a question. If your skin is sensitive to sunscreens you might find that using mineral-based products are better for you. Look for sunscreens that contain the ingredients titanium or zinc. If you are rigorous about your sun protection there is a chance you may ...

Re: Vitiligo

Many thanks for taking the time to post a question. Vitiligo can be treated in a number of ways with varying success. Some treatments can encourage the pigmentation to return but the pigment in the skin may be lost again over time. Common treatments include: 1. Topical creams such as steroid ointmen...

Re: Frequent Hand Washer

Many thanks for taking the time to post your question. It is very common for hands to be dry in the winter months - they are the most exposed part of our body and can easily dry out in cold, windy weather. The problem can most definitely be exacerbated by frequent hand washing. Some simple pointers ...

Re: Much Better

Many thanks for taking the time to post and i'm delighted to hear that your daughter is much better. I suspect it is a combination of getting older combined with use of the correct topical or cream based treatments. I would definitely encourage her to use the steroid ointment as and when she needs i...

Re: Eye eczema

Many thanks for your question. The general principles for managing eye eczema are the same as for other parts of the body. I would recommend: 1. A gentle emollient wash for him to use daily to cleanse the skin 2. A moisturiser to be applied to the eye area at least 3-4 times per day 3. A short, shar...

Re: hands

Dear Cally, I would try and make the most of general tips for managing eczema. 1. Do not use soap, shower gel, or stripping hand washes to clean your hands. Opt for emollient hand washes 2. Get into the habit of moisturising (fragrance free) with creams immediately after washing your hands 3. Consid...

Re: Persistent neck eczema

Many thanks for your question. I would suggest the general principles of eczema management: 1. No soaps or shower gels or fragranced washes - opt for emollient agents for skin cleansing 2. Regular emollients or moisturisers to be used at least twice daily 3. Topical steroids to be used for 7-10 days...

Re: Varicose eczema

Many thanks for you question. Varicose eczema can be more than a cosmetic concern as those who suffer are at higher risk of developing venous leg ulcers. Firstly, appropriate medical treatment should be provided. This includes: 1. soap substitutes or emollient washes to clean the skin 2. moisturiser...

Re: British Skin Foundation - Eczema

Soap and foaming cleansers can often aggravate eczema. There are a large number of emollient washes on the market (e.g aveeno, epaderm, cetraben, hydromol, dermol 500 to name a few) and you are much more likely to benefit from these. Your GP or dermatologist will be able to guide you in case there i...
