Re: frustrated and confused

Dear Mizmaz72, Wheat and gluten 'intolerances' are quite a minefield so I wanted to just outline a few possible reasons for symptoms with wheat and gluten, possible diagnoses and tests. 1) Coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition which is significantly underestimated (approximately 1 in 100 people...

Re: What are the chances of growing out of food allergies?

I would not recommend fresh egg pasta however dried egg pasta (normal shop bought hard pasta) should be cooked for the usual length of time.

Best wishes,

Re: Strange symptoms

Dear Jenarran, I think that your son's current symptoms of not walking properly, feeling weak in his legs is unlikely to be due to the accidental exposure to cow's milk. Please see my response for IgE vs Non IgE mediated cow's milk allergy. Children can have both types of allergies to a food as your...

Re: IgE/Non-IgE and confusion

Dear Louisa,

Thanks for your response. I agree depending on the results of the skin project tests it would be useful to have a diagnostic cow's milk challenge in hospital.

Best wishes,

Re: Chemical, dust mite and mould allergy

Standard treatment for moderate to severe allergic rhinitis is a daily intranasal steroid spray and daily non-sedating antihistamine. Many of these can be bought over the counter. If you are already taking those regularly and are still very symptomatic then it would be worthwhile asking your GP to r...

Re: What age can my daughter be tested

Dear Lynette, Your child can be tested from any age using skin prick tests or specific IgE to cow's milk. The clinician just needs to know how to interpret the tests at a younger age. You mention CMPI (cow's milk protein intolerance) in your post. Please take a look at my post in the children&al...

Re: IgE/Non-IgE and confusion

Dear Louisa, I am sorry that you have had a lot of conflicting messages. I am going to start by clarifying the difference between IgE and non IgE mediated allergy and how Allergists assess this. I wish to highlight that some children can have a mixed response (i.e. both IgE and non-IgE mediated alle...

Re: School dinners and legume allergy

Dear Shipmist, Most of the research on determining casual contact with allergens has been assessed for peanut. If a child has just skin contact with peanut they are less likely to have a generalised allergic reaction (i.e. it will probably only affect the area where the allergen contacted their skin...

Re: What are the chances of growing out of food allergies?

Dear Shipmist, You son is very likely to grow of his raw egg allergy especially given he tolerates baked egg. Research from the US has shown that giving baked egg products regularly can expedite the resolution of loosely cooked and raw egg allergy. Thus I would expect your son to grow out of this al...

Re: Extensive list of Allergies

Dear Lazlobee, Delayed gastrointestinal food allergies are notoriously difficult to manage as as yet there are no validated (accurate) skin prick/patch or blood tests to predict which foods will cause symptoms. The diagnosis is based on the clinical history and in certain cases children have endosco...
