Re: Harmful Excercise
Personally I'm not overly bothered by the minutiae of what has & hasn't been released yet, because as you say, it's not a 100% cure, it's the best we have so to me, at least, I'm reassured that properly applied CBT & GET shouldn't cause additional problems. It should be noted that the deter...

Re: GET - useful or risky?
This is the cause of the misunderstanding we are all reading about on this post, and why some people are opposed to it. People may have even been told they have received GET, or think that they are doing GET when in fact they are not. Therefore, knowledge is power: you can read this guide, and unde...

Re: dr's that don't believe :(
My friend is a member of BACME and found it's very biased towards the CBT model. She has a Masters in Psychology and she disagrees with it. Sadly, there does seem to be a tolerance within BACME for misleading claims about the value of psychological interventions for CFS. It is an organisation for t...

Re: National Outcomes Database (NOD)
A good question, and one that the NHS community is aware of and trying to address. One problem is that this community has a rather strong self-interest in presenting their interventions as being worthwhile, regardless of what the data says. The homeopathy community has yet to be convinced by claims...

Re: Harmful Excercise
The principle of GET is based on the fact that the people who make the best recovery from CFS/ME steer a compromise between over and under activity. People who fare badly either tend to drive themselves too hard and "crash" as is well described by several contributors or they go to the ot...

Re: Harmful Excercise
Sometimes people are concerned by what they have read online, or by someone else affected by their condition: people perhaps saying ‘exercise made me worse’, for example. Then, on the other hand you have the NHS promoting GET, and GET being supported by NICE guidelines and research. Very confusing....
Re: Diet
Once you start delving deeper, we often find that 'evidence' and 'research' is not of sufficient rigour to draw any conclusions at all. Such conclusions can be inaccurate, and potentially harmful. Unfortunately, they can be presented so well and so credibly that it can be hard to tell 'good researc...

Re: GET - useful or risky?
I agree, the evidence in favour of GET significantly outweighs any anecdotal evidence against. What's important is that the programme is delivered according the NICE guidelines and PACE protocol. I'd suggest looking up BACME: http://www.bacme.info/localservices/ One problem is that the evidence ava...
