Re: Child with irritable bowel
Hello Anna, I completely agree with Christine Bailey. Just to mention that if the condition proves to be a difficult to treat irritable bowel syndrome, there is now some emerging data that dermatological patch testing may in some cases point to trigger food allergies. With best wishes, Dr Anton Alex...

Re: dry skin patches or eczema?
Hello - I have a 8 week old baby. He's got a few dry patches of skin on his tummy and I'm now worried it could be eczema as we have eczema in the family. What should I use on his skin - not currently using anything because from what I've read you shouldn't put certain products on baby's delicate sk...

Re: Allergies/Vaccinations
Hello Catriona, I agree with Dr Lukawska that there is no good evidence of a link between alopecia areata and vaccination, and that there is no connection with a particular diet in this type of alopecia. I run alopecia clinic and see many patients - both adults and children. On a positive side, alop...

Re: Contact allergies on skin & Dairy Intolerance
I agree with Dr Fox - there are different emollients and generally the greasier the better e.g. emulsifying ointment. And 7 times a day sounds reasonable in bad eczema. In addition it is also important to use a bath oil, again any bath oil is generally good. Regarding oilatum - generally it is a goo...

Re: Flea bite reaction
I agree with Dr Lajeunesse that it is very important to rule out bed bugs. They can make life really miserable. And although steroid cream Betnovate and antihistamines can help temporarily it will not remove the cause. I would also suggest to see your GP or a dermatologist and if your rash is in kee...

Re: Eczema / Food Allergy link
Hello yes I completely agree with Dr Lukawaska. Specifically regarding eczema you are doing all the right things, and I would use more often epaderm when dermol. What are you washing your baby with? It is important to have a bath oil in the bath and dermol is a good substitue for soap. PLease rememb...

Re: cold induced urticaria
I completely agree with Dr Lukawska, cold urticaria is a rare and sometimes difficult to treat condition. In addition I would recomend Rupatadine but it would have to be prescribed by a doctor as it is not available without prescription. There is some evidence that it may work better than other anti...

Re: skin / scalp rash
In answer to your question, it sounds like folliculitis, see http://www.dermnetnz.org/acne/folliculitis.html
But really I would need more description e.g. what it looks like? Any symptoms? And I think in the first place it is a good idea to see a GP.

Re: Yeast Creams/Pill for Eczema
Hello Heather, I sometimes give a short course of oral steroids, as an exemption, for eczema. Usually I manage eczema with topical steroids, or protopic (tacrolimus), or elidel (pimecrolimus) or steroid sparing oral medications (azathioprine, methotrexate, ciclosporin). Anti-yeast treatments can be ...
