Re: Ileostomy
Hi Clara Glen
Have you seen a doctor with your symptoms? Constipation with an ileostomy would be unusual - and these symptoms, if also accompanied by pain, vomiting or alterations to your stoma need a medical review, perhaps with a colorectal surgeon. Severe symptoms and if you can keep your fluid intake up would be considered a medical emergency. Stoma specialist nurses can give you some advice if you have contact details for your local practitioner. A dietitian can also be useful to ensure you are not eating foods that can cause blockages - they would have to have experienced in advising on the diet after bowel surgery, as tolerance of food does vary.
