Blood in wee
Guest post from John:
Last year I had some blood in my wee - I went to my GP and he said that it was probably a urine infection and gave me antibiotics. It seemed to sort things out. However, I've had some blood in my wee recently and now I'm worried. Should I go back to my GP? What if he just gives me antibiotics again? Should I insist on a referral or am I being over anxious? I've read stuff about bladder cancer recently and it's made me feel concerned.
Many thanks

Re: Blood in wee
Hi John,
Blood in your wee is normally, about 80% of the time, just a urine infection that clears up with antibiotics.
Now that it has come back it is certainly best to go back to your GP to get it checked out to make sure that it is just an infection again. It will be important that the GP does test for infection rather than just assuming that it is a repeat of before as it just might be something more serious this time in which case you will need to be referred to the urology clinic for further tests.
If you have any concerns after seeing your GP again, please get in touch via our website.
Best wishes
Andrew
